Prescription fraud charges dropped after drug court

State vs. J.S.; Case No. 2007-CF-3018(St Lucie County)

Arresting Agency: St. Lucie County Sheriffs Office

Case Summary: “Our client was charged with doctor shopping. He was injured in a serious accident and went looking for a second opinion from another physician. Turns out Florida law can be very unforgiving of such a decision. Our client had a great job with Florida Power and Light (FPL) and was informed that any plea that resulted in a finding of guilt or a withhold of adjudication of guilt would result in his immediate termination and loss of his pension. The defense engaged in a series of negotiations with the prosecutor in an attempt to facilitate the client’s special circumstances.”

Result: “Client was granted opportunity to participate in drug court. He was successfully released from his drug court obligations after less than six months and the charges against him were dropped.”
